Nightmares are Source-mares
Someone is always asking me where do the ideas for my books come from. I might say something like "from the windmills of my mind" but in reality, they come from a lot of sources.
The last book idea came from a dream I had on 10/21/20. I was walking along a highway when a white man in his late 20's, carrying a backpack, and a knife approached me from behind. We had a cordial conversation and for some reason, I was not afraid. He ordered me to climb on top of a small structure while he boarded a city bus. I don't know why I obeyed him, but I suspect it was out of a subconscious morbid curiosity to see what happened next.
He boarded the bus and I could see through the windows he was hacking and slashing the passengers. A little voice in the back of my mind yelled, "Runnnnnnn!"
As I ran I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise letting me know that he was finished with his slaughter and was coming to resume talking to me. I had nothing to say and woke up excited that I now had a new horror to write. At 2 am I jotted down notes so that I wouldn't forget what I saw in the dream.
